Solid Waste Management Round Table, Bengaluru (SWMRT) is a collective of SWM practitioners working for the adoption of sustainable waste management practices by citizens and municipalities, since 2009, for improving public health, safe food, inclusive livelihoods, clean air and water.
Genesis
SWMRT has always believed that there is no better way to say Yes in My Backyard than to take up home composting or manage the wet waste in situ.
The SWACHAGRAHA campaign and website was conceptualized, designed and developed with a goal to create a favourable compelling space to convince people to view composting in a simple innovative way.
SWACHAGRAHA was a well curated campaign with a SwachaGraha anthem and an attractive branding that took the city by storm with its launch in the year 2016 with its invitation to all citizens of Bengaluru to start a journey with 3 green spots - COMPOST, GROW, COOK as a response to the Urban Crisis .
The approach was to get people to take up the Green spot challenge and keep one week’s wet waste away from the landfills by presenting the options of DIY methods or composting kits and turn it into valuable compost at home.
Evolving from a campaign to a platform
Our vision for SwachaGraha 2.0 in the year 2020, is to create a platform for conversations around organic waste management, be it individual, community or ward level. A natural next step is to bring more information about growing and cooking. We would like the platform to evolve as a one stop for all knowledge around composting for all , from a beginner to a seasoned practitioner.

Here you will find all information to promote three way segregation with colour coding. It has been adopted by lakhs of households across Bangalore and in other cities as well. 3-way segregation is now the Law.
The website also has information on how to minimize waste, what are sustainable alternatives and tips to promote a zero waste lifestyle.
